Mayhem in May

May was always going to be crazy and it has arrived. I have just returned from a very productive long weekend in Kilmore. The annual conference for the Animal Biomechanical Professionals Australia (ABPA) was a great time to catch up with old friends and colleagues, learn variations of different techniques and share our thoughts and talent. I have come home full of enthusiasm and ideas to offer my patients. I have already found the improved way of releasing tight hip muscles very easy and effective.

For those of you that don’t know who the ABPA are, we have had a recent name change from the Australian Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). I am honoured to be part of such a select group where three different professions, veterinarians, chiropractors and osteopaths have come together with the aim to help our animals’ bodies move and function better.

The end of this week is the Dog Lovers Show at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne. I will have a frantic few days preparing for my talk there on the Friday. I am hoping to share some useful tips that dog owners can take home to help prevent and rehabilitate injuries. So if there are any fans out there (LOL), come on down between 3.30-4 pm on Friday the 2nd of May and say hello.

Later this month, I will be attending a weekend seminar on chinese herbs and at the end of May is our Annual Veterinary Conference which I will attend in my capacity as president of the Australian Veterinary Acupuncture Group (AVAG). Despite my lack of enthusiasm for paperwork, bureaucracy, meetings and all that tedious stuff, I feel privileged to belong to both ABPA and AVAG. About 10-15 years ago, the only continuing education I was able to get on complementary therapy, was a few days of lectures every two years at the Annual Veterinary Conference. Nowadays we are spoilt for choice with conferences, weekends, seminars, webinars to choose from. Obviously the internet has made a lot of these things possible and I certainly need my ipad brain these days.

Till next time…I really have to write something about cruciate rehabilitation
